Apologies for the slightly disappointing video quality and large filesizes this time round, I ran into some issues with my video conversions.
A video tutorial for you today, where I walk you through the simple steps needed to install the Mplayer media player and the binary codec package on Linux. I’m using Ubuntu for the tutorial, but it should be easily adaptable for other distributions, and the binary codec installation step is distro-neutral. The combination of Mplayer and the codec package allows you to play close to almost all of the video content available on the web in many different formats including Windows Media, QuickTime and Real.
The link you need for the download page to get the binary codecs package is here.
Enjoy!

If you are using Ubuntu, it’s probably better to install the codecs from the w32codecs (or w64codecs or ppc-codecs) package in the Medibuntu repository. There is more info about that at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
For Debian users, information for retrieving the w32codecs package is available from http://www.debian-multimedia.org/. You can also find some other packages like MythTV in the debian-multimedia.org repository.
