PeterHere's an awesome (and quick) Ubuntu tip for you.
If you're running the older release (Dapper Drake or 6.06) of Ubuntu, and you want to upgrade to the latest and greatest version - Edgy Eft (or 6.10), there's actually a really easy way to do this, without changing any of your documents.
Hit Alt+F2 and type in the following:
gksu "update-manager -c"
Press Enter, enter your user password when prompted and click the Upgrade button to get started. From there, follow the instructions!
Like any other important disk process, you should backup your data prior to upgrading your OS, just in case.
